At Southside Animal Clinic & Pet Resort, caring for pets is our passion
Here, we treat pets like family. We understand how important your companion is to you — because they’re there for you through the thick and thin of life, with a wagging tail or a happy purr, and unconditional love.
Our goal is to be your partner in taking care of your pet’s physical and mental wellbeing, so you can enjoy many happy years together.
So, whether your pet needs a checkup with a doctor… a caring team and top-notch medical treatments when they’re ill… or, some advice on the best food for them or how to care for them at home — we’re here for you!
At Southside Animal Clinic, we see dogs and cats. And, we’ll strive to make their visit a comfortable and positive experience.
Come in and get to know us, and see why both you and your pet will love coming here!

Meet Our Veterinarians
Dr. Tyler Begg
Dr. Tyler Begg earned his Bachelors in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2018 from Wittenberg University in his home state of Ohio. It was here that he met his wife and eventually followed her to her home state of Florida. Though he grew up on a small farm in Ohio, spending countless hours around both large and small animals, it was at the University of Florida that Dr. Begg began to focus his studies on small animal medicine, graduating with his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2022. It was during his time at the University of Florida that Dr. Begg’s interests in internal medicine, ultrasonography, and anesthesia developed.
After graduation, Dr. Begg started practicing veterinary medicine in the greater Jacksonville area before joining the team at Southside Animal Clinic in 2024. He is passionate about using Fear Free practices to promote general wellness of his patients by reducing fear, anxiety, and stress in the clinical setting. He also enjoys educating his patients’ parents whenever possible, making sure they feel informed and empowered about their pets’ medical care. Outside the office, Dr. Begg can be found spending quality time with his wife and their pup, Mabel. He enjoys exploring places local to Jacksonville, cheering on the Jaguars, spending time outside, playing tennis with his wife, and taking their road bikes out on long rides.Dr. Jessie Burgess
Dr. Jessie Burgess served as a relief veterinarian for several years before officially joining the team at Southside Animal Clinic in February of 2020. She is a graduate of the University of Florida (Go Gators!!), earning her Bachelors in Animal Sciences and Zoology in 2008, as well as Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and International Veterinary Medicine Certificate in 2012. After graduation, Dr. Burgess remained at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine to complete a one-year specialty internship in Integrative Medicine, including rehabilitation, acupuncture, nutrition and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Throughout her internship, she received her certification in veterinary acupuncture and further training in herbal medicines at the Chi Institute, completed in the fall of 2012. She then continued post-graduate training at the Canine Rehabilitation Institute to become a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist (CCRT), completed in the fall of 2015. She is also passionate about One Health and international veterinary medicine, with previous veterinary trips to Belize, Zambia, Honduras, Ecuador and Nicaragua.
Dr. Burgess is a native of Jacksonville and excited to continue to provide veterinary services to the town she calls home. Her professional interests include preventative medicine and health, soft tissue surgery and medical management for chronic pain and orthopedic disease. She is passionate about gentle handling of all her patients and positive reinforcement in the clinic setting, especially regarding geriatric and neurologic animals. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Burgess can be found living life to the fullest with her husband and two pups, Didier Dogba and Penelope Grace. They love doing anything involving the beach and being on the water, spending time outside hiking and backpacking, traveling, good Mexican food, and all things Chelsea soccer and college football.

So nice, we are new to town and it is always hard to trust a new vet. Our 1st experience was great and the vet was so nice and knowledgeable. Took care of our puppy as if she was their puppy.
